BlogEngine 2.0 Release Candidate is Out!

Just several months after version 1.6 was released, we're happy to announce that a Release Candidate for BlogEngine.NET 2.0 is available.

We accomplished meeting most of our Roadmap goals.  The most visible change is the redesign of the control panel.  Many thanks to team member Janko Jovanovic for this much more modern control panel UI.  There's now a Dashboard, and new pages to View all of your Posts and Pages, which is really nice for easily being able to see your data.

New Databases

On the database side, we are now supporting SQL CE 4.  This is a standalone database similar to SQLite and VistaDB.  We're no longer providing updates for VistaDB, but you may update your existing VistaDB with the new DB tables & columns which can be found in the upgrade scripts for other databases we continue to provide updates for (SQL Server, MySQL, SQLite).

Features & Upgrading

A complete list of new features in BlogEngine v2.0 can be found here.  It's worth noting that this version has made the leap from .NET 2.0 to .NET 3.5.  If you are upgrading from a previous version, there's been a lot of changes to files and folders.  Please see the upgrade instructions which provide a relatively painless way to upgrade.  As this is just a Release Candidate, there may be unidentified problems that need to be fixed.  A number of team and community members have been running the latest builds, and it's fairly solid now.  If you do find any problems, please report them in the Issue Tracker.

Video

If you'd like to get an idea of some of the new features and see what the new control panel UI looks like, the 4 - 5 minute video below hightlights this.

Acknowledgements

BlogEngine.NET version 2.0 has been developed by an unprecedented number of contributors.  Switching to Mercurial for source code control has made it very easy for enthusiastic developers to create forks and contribute code.  Special thanks to the following people who made version 2.0 a realization.

Hi ! This is a great tool and a great software. I use it in my company's internal blog. last week I tried to insert a post using my iPad, but the Safari browser in iDevices can't edit or insert any text in the JavaScript text box where the post is supposed to be inserted. So this is more like a item in a  wish list. Include support to blog from an iPad !
thank you !

I'm thrilled to see that my SimpleCaptcha extension made it in - I'm going to go upgrade from 1.6 to 2.0 as soon as I can!

Yahooooooooooo!
I'm excited for the new build. Smile
Good Work!

Nice UI design, but i'am missing the moderation options:

Manual - only after comment approved by admin will it show up in the blog
Automatic - rules and filters will decide if comment is spam.

WOW! Allow non-English characters in post URLs? This is priceless for non-English users! Any plan on announcing the release date?
P.S. As you can see in my site, I have implemented Hijri calendar into blogengine.net 1.6.0 I'm planning to do a neat work on v2.0 and don't touch anything else except calendars and dates. Are you interested to share a link to that project as well (After viewing the code)?

We welcome code contributions. In fact, 2.0 is first release we got sizable help from community, probably because of move to Mercurial as source repository. Final release will be end of year or very beginning of 2011.

Sure I'll try it

BlogEngine is the best
Looking forward to the official version

Web Deployment Tool for IIS 7 was demoed using BlogEngine.NET 1.4.5.is absolutely useful and reliable. The video link http://channel9.msdn.com/pdc2008/ES15/. is also useful.

Waiting for the final release, hope I'll get a nice christmas present ;) !

期待正版的发布

Huge Thanks to the Development Team...
I'll try the newest BlogEngine.Net 2.0 Soon... =)

I hope you will have specific instructions on how to configure this to run on IIS 7.5, both on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008-2.  A 'System.Web.AspNetHostingPermission' exception is thrown.

I was able to get release 1.6.1 to work on IIS 6 but not on IIS 7.5
