BlogEngine.NET Project

We need translaters and designers

clock June 18, 2007 20:32 by author Team

Everyday we are getting closer to the next release fo BlogEngine.NET. All the bugs from the previous release are fixed and a lot of new and exciting features have been added. Some of the new features are:

  • Post rating system
  • Localization
  • Spam protection
  • Microformats
  • Recent comments widget
  • OPML support
  • Contact form

Besides the addition of new features, we also improved almost all of the existing ones, such as:

  • Recent posts widget
  • Referrer stats
  • Ping services
  • Archive
  • Performance and stability
  • Security
  • Windows Live Writer support
  • Search engine optimization
  • SQL Server Provider
  • Draft posts

Themes

A lot of super CSS friendly themes are being added for theme designers to easily modify for this release. They are all very basic templates meant for designers to pick up on and modify easily because the basic foot work is done. Beside those templates we really need some high-end cool looking themes, but we haven't got the man power up to the next release, so we are asking for your help on this. If you have created a cool looking theme and want to share it with fellow BlogEngine.NET users, we would very much like to add them to the next release with your permission. Remember to credit the theme with a link to your own website.

Translaters

Because the next release will support localization we need translaters. English and Danish are covered by the team, but any other languages we can't do our selves. In a few days, the complete list of words and sentences are ready for translation. If you speak another language than English or Danish, we would love to hear from you if you are interested in helping us out. The translation is done in a resource file (.resx) and consists of about 100 words and phrases. All translaters will be credited here on the official BlogEngine.NET website.

This release is done long before we original planned it for, but we felt it was important to get all these features out there in an official manor. The release does not change anything that will break your existing themes - only provide a much better platform for them.

Mads, would you consider putting out "overnight" versions ? E.g. I'm still not on a level where I can contribute code to the project, although I have that as a future goal.

But I would still be willing to run the latest and greatest, to weed out any errors. Perhaps more feel like that ? And perhaps it'd be a good help for you guys, so you can catch the errors and possibly make the "final" releases better ?

Just a suggestion :)
